The Yaesu VX-5R is a great little radio but lets face it, the factory belt clip is pathetic.  After many years of using handheld radios I learned the hard way that one should always protect their investment by purchasing a protective leather case.  On the VX-5 this presents a special problem when trying to replace the belt clip with a good one.  The case straps close around the top of the radio where the clip screws onto the unit.  This makes using an aftermarket clip and the protective case at the same time very difficult.  The VX CLIP adapter solves this problem.

After some research and experimentation I designed a heavy duty aircraft aluminum offset clip adapter that allows one to use an off the shelf universal "quick draw" spring belt clip ($4.95 at your local Wal-Mart) with the VX-5 tucked safely inside the CSC-73 leather case.  My friends who saw the adapter wanted me to make them one too so I decided to take a chance and had a local machine shop manufacture a batch run so I could make them available on the web.  My goal was to produce a very high quality product at low cost so any good Ham could afford it and be able to protect and enjoy their fine little radio.  The pictures on this page show the details of the design and the adapter in use on the radio.  Please take a look and read the descriptions to learn more about the VX CLIP.

The VX-CLIP adapter allows the Belkin universal belt clip to be used with the protective Yaesu CSC-73 leather case.
The adapter can be used with or without the wrist strap.  It has a groove which allows the strap to be attached.
This belt clip system works better than any other I have ever owned.  It stands off your belt just enough that it rides well and doesn't dig into your side or get put under a lot of pressure when you sit and the antenna is in free air, not pressed against your body.  The ability to easily rotate the radio when you are sitting or reaching in your pocket is a real plus.  The 8 detent positions make the whole assembly work very professionally.  Since I started using the VX-CLIP adapter with the Belkin belt clip I have not had the radio pop off my belt, come out of the clip, or even come close to losing it.  I never felt safe with the original clip.  The quick release makes drawing the radio to talk very easy, there is no struggling to get a spring clip out from under your belt.  The radio is super secure but easy to access!   The adapter and Belkin clip together only costs 15 bucks and works better than other solutions costing twice as much!
